A small town in Kansas is literally left in the dark after seeing a mushroom cloud over near-by Denver, Colorado. The townspeople struggle to find answers about the blast and solutions on how to survive. Jericho is a drama about what happens in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion in the once peaceful town of Jericho. Following the battle with New Bern, the citizens of Jericho begin reconstruction efforts to restore the town's power and communication with the outside world. As the country's new leaders, the Cheyenne government, attempt to establish their stronghold in the region, Jericho's citizens become suspicious of their new leaders and question why their community is so important to this newly formed government. I just watched the season finale. First, why a 7? Because, despite its numerous flaws, Jericho still got some old-fashioned charm to it – and somewhat manages to keep you interested throughout the season. <br/><br/>It has a great starting off point. It has a great main character - Ulrich, who is radiating dark charisma. It has… well, that's all on the plus side. The rest is:<br/><br/><ul><li>totally unrealistic characters, - dialog corny as hell - predictable plot, and plot "twists" (you can see'em coming almost from the beginning of the episode). - not so great acting (to put it mildly)</li></ul><br/><br/>But the main problem with Jericho is that the show suffers from the same disease that struck far more greater series like Lost, 24 and Prison Break. It is its completely unrealistic, often laughable storyline. Characters appear and disappear, bad guys turn good and good turn bad, when someone isn't needed anymore, he/she simply gets killed or disappears till the finale (Heather). People get shot in the stomach and are up and running the town in perfect health in the next episode (the new mayor). <br/><br/>I could go on, but you get the point … To Jericho's credit though – it is still far more believable than '24' which in my book is PURE Sci-Fi, if not even Fantasy. <br/><br/>Another thing that annoys me as hell - the darn flashback sequences. I simply REFUSE to watch yet another episode with a flashback! This extremely boring strategy ruined Lost; it was even used in a laughable way in the otherwise great 1st season of Prison Break (I simply skipped this entire episode, as I skipped the flashbacks in Lost - that is, back when I still had the nerve to watch what later turned to be not a show but a steaming pile of cr..p).<br/><br/>To sum it up - I won't watch the 2nd season of Jericho. But I would watch Ulrich on the big screen, (preferably) in a gritty realistic drama. This guy has some very strong screen presence. There are so many things that can be said about Jericho. It is fantasy drama based on U.S. foreign policy and corporate corruption in the government. It brilliantly brings atrocities committed by Blackwater in Iraq into the spotlight by bringing the issue home to the United States and showing "ravenwood" abusing U.S. citizens in the same way. Parallels and caricatures showing the actions of corrupt government, corporations, and individuals who have helped destroy United States Liberties and civil rights.<br/><br/>Jericho isn't light, and it isn't comfortable. It brings to light real life issues in a way that could make many blind followers of the military or military action very uncomfortable. The first season shows people struggling to survive after a tragedy and breakdown of modern society. The second season progresses showing how they are abused and subjugated by the new government formed by the very internal terrorists that destroyed the old one.<br/><br/>The show is well done and keeps your attention. Unlike mindless drama shows the characters her grow and learn allowing resolution and understanding. It's definitely something not truly meant for kids to see, but worthwhile for anyone old enough to understand politics, world issues, and the dangers of war and military being used for profit, control, and the enslavement of the people by supported corporations. In other words the show brings the real ugly face of government and corporate corruption to life using a fictional world representing traditional American culture being destroyed by in house corruption.
